LETTER ABOUT THEM

Hi! We are Adam and Rachel! Thanks for taking the time to learn a little about our family.

Our story began on a very unlikely blind date that was arranged by a friend of Adam’s. Much to both of our surprise, the date went really well! Rather than feeling like an awkward dinner with a stranger, it felt to each of us as though we were catching up with an old friend. We hit it off immediately and it didn’t take us long to realize that we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together.

After deciding to start a family and being met with struggles and heartache, we paused to consider our options for starting a family and felt drawn to adoption. In the fall of 2016, we were blessed to be able to adopt our amazing little boy, Ezra. He is truly the light of our lives and keeps us smiling and laughing every day. We absolutely love being parents and can’t wait to welcome another child into our family through the blessing of adoption.

LETTER ABOUT ADAM

Adam has the biggest heart of anyone I know. He is thoughtful, dependable, kind, and a great listener. He is always looking for ways to make life a little better for the people he loves. In addition to being an awesome husband, Adam is a great dad! He is patient, happy, and full of energy. Ezra likes to be dad’s little shadow and Adam happily includes him in everything he’s doing.

Adam is a really fun-loving guy and is often described as kind of a “big kid.” He can make anything fun. No matter how boring a task might seem he can make it into a game or make jokes to keep things light and interesting. Ezra and I love Adam so much!

One of the many things I admire about Adam is his work ethic. He works very hard at his job as a director and purchaser at a local college. We both feel blessed that Adam’s job allows him to be home every evening and allows for me to be a stay-at-home-mom.

Adam plays as hard as he works! He loves to mountain bike, snowboard, and play basketball in his spare time. I’m amazed at how much energy he has! He often talks about how much he loves being a dad. I can’t wait to see him become a dad to another child!

LETTER ABOUT RACHEL

Rachel is such an amazing person and I am so lucky to have her in my life. Besides being incredibly beautiful, she is kind, thoughtful, fun, and will keep anyone on their toes with her witty sense of humor. It would be safe to say I am a shining example of “marrying up.” Rachel loves to cook, bake treats, hike, camp, watch documentaries, and read, which might explain how she is so smart and knows crazy facts about literally everything!

Rachel’s family will tell you that Rachel was born to be a Mom. As I watch her love, teach, and interact with Ezra, I couldn’t agree more! Rachel naturally puts others before herself and has a genuine kindness that touches everyone around her. The phrase “Rachel is my favorite,” or “I love Rachel,” is echoed by friends, family, co-workers, former students and parents, and essentially everyone that meets her.

I love spending time with Rachel, whether we are playing outdoors, on a vacation, or just hanging around the house. More than anyone, I can say “Rachel is my Favorite,” and “I love Rachel,” which in my eyes makes me the luckiest guy in the world!

ABOUT EZRA
Our son, Ezra, is a ball of fun and energy! We were lucky to adopt him at birth and every day with him has been more amazing than we could ever have imagined. Ezra is a smart, on-the-go little guy who loves music, playing outside, animals, books, basketball, and anything with wheels. He also loves playing with his cousins and friends and being spoiled by his grandparents. Ezra has the most hearty and contagious laugh of anyone we know, and we’re sure that he will be an amazing big brother! We are fortunate to have an open adoption and are grateful for the ongoing communication that we have with Ezra’s birth mom. We would welcome a similar relationship with you, if that is something that feels comfortable to you. Whatever you choose, your child will always be reminded of the strength, sacrifice, and love you showed by bringing them into the world.
OUR HOME

We live on a safe, quiet street on a piece of land that has been in Adam’s family for four generations! We are surrounded by family and Adam’s parents live right next door. Ezra loves having grandma and grandpa so close by! We have a large yard and love spending time playing together outside. Our home is about half a mile from the church we attend, as well as one of the best elementary schools in our area.

We share our home with our dogs, Lillie and Lucy. We feel like their loyalty, gentle nature, and laziness is unmatched. We also welcomed our pet goldfish, Swim Shady and Finilla Ice, after “winning them” at a white elephant-themed Christmas party. Ezra loves playing with his puppies and helping to feed his fish every day!

We are usually an on-the-go family, but we like to take time to relax too. One of our favorite family traditions started when we were still dating. We would unwind after a long week by enjoying pizza and a movie at home every Friday night. The movies have changed now that we have Ezra (he always chooses Cars as his movie), but we love being able to snuggle up and relax together in our home.

HOBBIES AND TRADITIONS

We are a family that likes to get out and explore together! When we were married, we set a goal to go on at least three vacations each year: one to somewhere we’ve never been; one to somewhere we’ve been, and want to revisit (Disneyland is a favorite); and one to a National Park. It has been so wonderful to experience our favorite places with Ezra, and we can’t wait to continue our adventures as a family of four.

We love living in Utah and take advantage of the fun outdoor activities that are available here. We enjoy hiking, mountain biking, snowboarding and camping. These hobbies have only become more fun as we’ve been able to enjoy them with Ezra.

We also love spending time with our extended families and celebrating holidays with them. Our favorite holidays are Christmas and Halloween, but we’ll take every opportunity we can to cook up some food and have a party with the people we love.

Favorite Holiday Traditions:

1. Decorating the whole house for Christmas, inside and out!

2. Dressing up in coordinating costumes every Halloween

3. Watching our favorite Christmas movies throughout the month of December

4. Participating in the giant Easter Egg Hunt that Adam’s family has each year

5. Taking a hayride to pick pumpkins with Rachel’s family every October

CLOSING

Thank you for giving us an opportunity to share a little about ourselves with you! While we can’t possibly know exactly how you are feeling and what you are going through right now, we are truly humbled by the bravery, selflessness and love you are showing as you make these difficult decisions. Please know that your love and concern for your child is not lost on us. We admire and respect the courage you have to trust another to love and raise your child.

If you feel we are the right family, we will raise your child with an understanding and admiration for you and the love and sacrifice that you showed by bringing them into this world. We have been blessed to build our family through adoption and it is a very natural and special part of our family’s story. We will always honor the place that you hold in your child’s heart. We welcome whatever level of openness will be most comfortable for you. Whatever you choose, we wish you all the best on this journey you’re on and in everything that your future holds.
